There are some problems with displaying of Chinese characters in main menu (TntMainMenu) when localizing from English to Chinese (Traditional). Please, see the screenshot attached. The same strings being as simple TLabels are displayed correctly. What is reason of this glitch? P.S. The same menu (TntMainMenu) displays without problems in another our application. Hi, looks like Simplified Chinese is used for the menu. Simplified does not have all the chars Traditional has. The missing chars are are displayed with ?. TLabel is working differently and is rendered differently than the other GUI elements by Delphi. Please re-try with a text control to see if the problem also become visible outside the menu. Markus

Hi, thanks for the files. I found that the '説' character does not belong to Chinese, Traditional script. Therefore Windows can not display it. Mixing Traditional and Simplified Chinese is a common error. You can find that yourself if you use Validation - Validate Translation in Sisulizer V2008. Markus

Hi, Markus. “Validate Translation" function can not find scripts incompatibility among problem strings. All is OK, when TntMainMenu works under Latin locale. The problem appears only under Chinese (Taiwan) one. This has been checked in both our and client’s environment. Then I doubled the problem translation twice in the string. The results are on the screenshot. Attachment: Chinese (taiwan) - 2.jpg (Downloaded 30 times)

Hi, I asked one of our Chinese language partners and he says, that the message "'説' character does not belong to Chinese, Traditional script." must be wrong in Sisulizer. It seems Sisulizer does not like this char and probably that is the reason why it is not written to the output. I will forward that problem to R&D. Markus

The problem has been solved. I have moved the point of language libraries initialization from unit to the beginning of *.DPR file.

Thanks, nevertheless we look into the missleading message of the Validation for the char causing the troubles. Thanks for pointing us to it. Markus

You are also using TLabel, TEdit and TListBox controls. Those can't draw chinese characters on non-chinese Windows. Please change them to TTnt-controls (TTntLabel, TTntEdit and TTntListBox). After that the chinese text will be shown correctly. regards Ilkka

Hi, here is some more info from our CTO: ------------ This character has two variants (Unicode code poing in parentheses): 説 (0x8AAC) 說 (0x8AAA) The first one is not on Traditional Chinese code page (950). Only the later one is there. This is why the Delphi application (that is Ansi) get ? instead of character when converted to Trad. Chinese code page. The validation error is also caused by the fact that code page does not contains this variant. Both variants are valid Trad Chinese (and also valid Japanese) but because only later is in the code page the error occurs. A solution is to use the later one. ------------- Chinese can be tricky. Sisulizer's Validation function "Invalid Script" of Sisulizer is a huge help to isolate such issues. For ANSI application using Far East languages it should be switched always on!
