Hi,

What's the status on TM editor? I see posts that it's being developed dating back to -07 but so far there's nothing released. I also seem to remember that this was something that was promised for SL 2008. A TM without an editor is really incomplete in my view. Sure I can edit in a SQL tool but that's awkward.

How does the TM work when it comes to duplicates?

Support I translate "Hello" with "Hoa", save to TM and then discover that I misspelled. What happened if I correct the string to "Hola" and save to TM? Will it overwrite the Hoa with Hola or will it keep 2 translations for Hello.  How does it handle if I have the same string that are translated differently for the same language?

Thanks
Frede

Hi Frede,

I just spoke Jaakko our CTO and he promised me that he starts doing the TM editor in V2008 after he finished some .NET problems. These .NET problems are important for some customers while the missing TM editor is not really show stopping.

I know that this is not the answer you like to hear. But believe me, I already have a bloody nose from continuously asking our CTO for this TM beast.

You can't believe how much we discuss behind the covers to let it slip somewhere into the schedule.

The problem is, that there are some renovation to be done in the TM in general before the TM editor can be done. That needs some time.

On the other side the makers of the platforms keep us busy with new releases like Delphi 2010, Windows 7, .NET 4, Silverlight, WPF, ...

If you have to correct a single string you could use Tools - Translation Engines - <your engine> - Tools - Write backup file for the selected translation memory. Then you will see some XML file. Correct the typo with some editor and you can Replace the content with the edited backup file. Not very elegant but working.

Markus

Hi Markus,

The editor is not über-urgent for me, but I've been looking forward to it for a long time and it's really awkward when you notice that a bad spelling found its way into the TM. When translating stuff like text files where context cannot be generated in any suitable way, I usually end up with a huge number of lines that are untranslated on the next scan. I translate this with the TM so I'd really like to be able to fix the errors in the TM with an editor.

Also, the email notification seems flawed. I don't always get a notifictation when someone replies to a post although the checkbox is ticked. It's not in the spam folder either

/Frede

Hi,

Sorry, we can not guarantee that every email notification of the forum reaches its target. There are simply to much emails send out and there are so much reason where the emails could become lost.

One know issue is, that servers block emails without notification if some count of similar emails arrive. Nothing we can do against that.

This is e.g. the reason why our mailing list does not accept any more _(at)_gmail, _(at)_yahoo.com etc. email addresses. We already have so much users with such email addresses in our list that gmail, yahoo, etc. do not all of them allow to get them.

To address that we publish new post also on Twitter. You could follow Sisulizer on Twitter or you click on the newsfeed icon on the forum home page. While Twitter is still under observation the newsfeed is working without the limitations email has.
