 A suggestion although I am not entirely sure how it would be implemented....
It would be good to have a counter that counts the number of words and phrases translated by an external translator (that you send a package using the exchange wizard).
External translators usually charge per word. If there are many similar strings in a project SL automatically translates all strings that are equal so the total number of strings translated can be a lot less than the number of initially untranslated word/strings.

Just a thought...

 I know this is a tough one. How do you handle if the translator modifies an already existing translation (and maybe just one or two words in a long string), for example.

 Just for the case you haven't seen it. When you use menu Project->Report..., and check the options "Show statistics in words", and "Show statistics in strings" you will get an HTML file with exactly what you are asking for. Sisulizer will open it in standard browser.

Sorry, I just see that you want to see just the words done by one translators, not all like shown in the report.

 What I would need is the following.

Once I get the project back from the external translator I would just want to know the number of actually translated strings. With actual I mean translated strings that are not duplicates or translated from the TM. If you have 20 strings and 10 of them are duplicates that should of course count as just 2 translations and not 20.

The number of words translated in probably not that neccessay since you can calculate the average if you just know the totalt number of strings and the total number of words in the project.

 Hello,

Calculating of localization process costs is important question, especially for companies co-operate with external translators services or freelancers. I have some proposal that can to make stats feature more detailed and flexible.
  1. The Sisulizer has special filter for showing only translated strings that are identical to original (Sheet filter… > Text). This filter has affect also on displayed statistics. Do you think about adding to statistics pane filter with reverse action (Do not show translated strings that are identical to original)?  
  2. My second idea is directly involved to Frede question, I suggest adding to statistics pane next filter for filtering duplicate strings (number translated strings in statistics should be reset to one for all duplicates of string). Probably implementation of this filter will be more hard than first filter, because The Sisulizer should to keep information about duplicates in project.
  3. Filter for showing only translated strings during current session (from open project to saving or exit from project).
Of course, all these filters shouldn’t have affect to sheet.

 The more I think of this the more I realize how complex this task is. The ideal scenario is to have a release-ready software they you send to the translator and you can directly determine how many words that are to be translated. For us at least this is not the case but the translation is an iterative process, i.e. you send the project files back and forth several times and there might be new strings added for each iteration. Also, you need to take into account changed rows that are to be translated again. It would be interesting to hear some of the developers ideas for a solution.
