Tabbed Designer Views

I'd like a more convenient way to switch the WYSIWYG designer between original and localized views. The 'home' button shows a preview but I'd really like to see both views side-by-side or on separate designer tab pages.

Side-by-side is probably not an option with your current layout buy adding a tabbed layout to the designer workspace should be possible.

If you don't want to waste screen real estate with a tab page bar, consider replacing the 'home' button with two radio buttons so you can switch between the views.

Spell Checker

From my perspective, one of the big advantages of your product is the spell checker. Note that Visual Studio and other IDEs don't check the spelling of resource strings.

I recommend that you bring the spell checker out from just being another validation check. Make it a more obvious feature. Take some hints from MS and consider automatic spell checking.

It would be really handy if the spell checker also tested original strings.

Icon Experience

Icons are a great way to add affordance to your applicaton and http://www.IconExperience.com certainly provide a great, low cost, generic set of icons. I've used them myself on several products.

However, for you application, I recommend getting some specific icons developed. It will help to brand your project and make the UI less generic.

Icons are the only source of color in your product but nothing about these icons says that Sisulizer does resource editing, translation, localization.

Tabbed Designer Views

We have though about this. Bringing two forms (original + translated) visible at the same time takes more space. This is why we originally rejected the idea. I will talk with other guy here and think about this. Maybe we will implement it such way that you can choose either single (e.g. current), tabbed or paralel.

Spell Checker

This is already being implemented. The next major version will contain realtime spell checking just like Word and Excel.

Icon Experience

You are right about this. I need more talking with other guys here.

Thank you for your input.

Hi Winston,

>> Icon Experience

we already gave the job for a tailor made icon in the beginning. But the designers failed to make an icon that the whole team could accept. We used it as logo for our blog: http://www.the-localization-tool.com/

The space of an icon is extremely limited and it is very hard to make it look like "software localization". The only idea everybody offers is a globe. But it does not make sense to add another globe icon to the myriads already around. We also can not go for a stock item. We need something unique. If somebody has an idea how it could look like: we are happy for every creative input :-)

Best

Markus
