Hi,

Sometimes big projects contain hundreds files to localization, and list in tree pane  for these projects will be very, very long, and additional it don’t show real structure of localized files, for example directory structure of original files. The Sisulizer has feature in Project Wizard for adding all similar files in directory to project, and after using this method of adding files to project, Tree pane keep structure of directories, but this solution is in some cases not useful. Translator can also to check pathnames of sources in tree pane (unfortunately, long pathnames are often  truncated) or in source properties, but this is not special comfortable solution. Translator can to use location of source files different then original, for example I often copy source files to one external directory, because after building I’ve all targeted files in one output directory, but this solution don’t show original structure of directories. For this reason I propose feature for create custom folders in tree panel, where translator could to place selected source files (of course only virtual). This solution allow reproduce directories structure of source files in virtual way, or allow organize selected source files type (e.g. *.CHM), or files with different destination (e.g. group files for exchange with translators), etc. Additional this feature can be useful in search and stats features. Below are some examples of potential using custom folders.
  • Now I translate project with 190  INI files. Original source files are placed in two directories (one contains INI files for management, second for tools and additional components), and creation custom folders allow me organize all files in my own categories for example by component functionality.
  • Application contains several DLL, Help and HTML files, and custom folders allow organize these files in separated categories.
  • Now I localize application with additional exe tools (for example backuptool.exe) beside main application file, and every from this tools has one or more own localized DLL files. Custom folders feature allow to place these files to separated folders for every tool.
  • Sometimes translator localize several applications for one manufacturer, and one project for all this applications is sometimes good solution. Custom folder feature allow translator grouping all source files to separated folders for each application.
Probably potential Custom folder feature make Tree pane more flexible and useful, especially for big projects. Do you think about this feature?

BTW:

Implementation of Custom folder feature probably will be require enabling Drag & Drop feature for Tree pane.

Best,
