Hi there.

Is it possible to include a possibility for report translations ?
We´re working with the Seagate Crystal Report 8 (I know it´s not the latest ;-) )
For now we have to translate the reports in Crystal Reports and provide them to the translators as DOC-File. This makes a lot of work because there´s no exchange for translations included. First you have to read out all the strings and afterwards you have to reenter all of them. So if there would be a possibility in Sisulizer it would be really great

Best regards
Björn Staack

Hi Björn

we already checked the possibility to localize Crystal Reports. We did not find enough information about the format. If I remember right, one issue we found was, that the reports are crypted to prevent third party from altering them. It seems Seagate want to make sure that reports can not be manipulated. This also means they can not be localized. While we did not find detailed information this might be our interpretation. But we stopped looking deeper into it. If you have more information please send it to us at support (at) sisulizer.fi.

Markus

Hello again.
In 2007 I have ask for the possibility of translating Crystal Reports. Did you get any further informations about this in the past ?
I have found a program called "Crystal Translator" which provides this possibility. But unfortunately not as good and comfortable as Sisulizer. Do we have to buy this further tool or do you think it would be possible to set this feature to the whish list ? ;-)

Best regards
Björn

Hi Björn,

If I remember correctly was the CR format participially encrypted by design to avoid editing the files outside of CR. That's the reason why we have no concrete plans to support the localization of it.

Sorry for not having better news

Markus

Hi Markus.

Thank you for your reply.
You´re right that this was the issu why there was no possibility to implement it in the past.
But for now I have found an interesting program called "Crystal Translator" which provides these features.
Maybe they have found a solution for the format problem ?
I have downloaded the demo of "Crystal Translator" and I wish it could be as comfortable as Sisu. :-)

Björn

Hi Björn,

There are two sides of the coin. It might be possible to re-engineer the format like it is possible to overcome copy protection. it is just that we prefer to be with the good guys. I understood that CR wants to make sure that reports can not be manipulated if you have the report file.

But that means as well that CR should offer some good way to localize their stuff. The XLIFF format would be a great choice. But it is often ignored and instead some home-brewed solutions are invented. The more the Internet opens new markets the bigger the need to localize everything. So there is still hope that localization standards spread - perhaps with your help :-)

Markus
