hi, it seems that for some reason some strings aren't translated using the embedded translation memory

for example:
2 exe's in same project which uses a lot of the same forms in both exe's
1 form has resource strings, and in the main app, the strings are translated
i save the column to embedded
i then try to translate the other which contains the same form and resource strings and 1 resource string stays not translated...
what could be the cause?

Probably there is an extra blank, dot or a different line break in the other original. If you look closer you will see some minor difference in the originals.

it's the same unit, so how can the original be different?

Are they in the same path with the same name?

yep, the same file but 2 applications
i push all translations from the main app to the embedded translation memory but the string does not gets translated in the 2nd app
in the first it is marked als auto translate (don't know the cause of that) but there are other strings with the same status that do get translated...

Have you tried to change to change the "source" as translated and the "target" as untranslated. If everything matches the only reason can be flags or the translation or the row status. Have you checked the settings for duplicates in your project?

You can also try to import the string using File - Import. In the wizard choose "by value". The import wizard also has more options. Playing with them might help to find tge reason why that row is excluded from re-use.

the translation status of that row can't be changed, the statusses are greyed out, so i guess that is the problem
so what causes the options to be greyed out?

The row is excluded or marked as Do not Translate?

Can you please zip your slp and use Private Upload to send it to us. We make some tests.

Hi,

I loaded the Officinall.slp, then used Project - Translate Duplicates and the element resBetalingAangevraagdVoor is automatically translated.
I also looked into the slp and it just looks fine.My settings are set to factory defaults like above and I used the same build as you.

hi Markus,
my settings are alike but still it refuses to translate (automagically)...
but the translate duplicates did the trick also
never thought of using that one....
still why shouldn't it translate when using the embedded engine?

Translate Duplicates uses the translations from the current SLP. Sometimes it might have references also as embedded, while internal translation memory would be better.

Translate using Translation Engine -> Use Embedded uses translations stored in a database. To fill this you need to use File - Save to translation memory.
Hard to fiddle out why this single row did not translate automatically. It si a good idea to run a validation from time to time and use Search - Next untranslated Row to find missing translation. Then using Project - Translate Duplicatesis a good idea as first step. Also the statistic pane can be useful.

Hope this helps
Markus
