Hello,

I want to ask how can translators change the "Original" value?

What happens is this:
- developers add a new resource in the default RESX file
- developers make mistakes, either typos or improper English
- translators import the new resource to do their work, but notice the bad original value and want to be able to change it

I've been going over Sisulizer and the documentation but I can't find anything about this. The cell is read only and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it. So, is there a way?

PS:
- Translators don't necessarily have the technical skills to change the RESX files directly, so that's not an option
- We are talking about a C# project, if that is relevant to Sisulizer somehow

Thanks,
~Victor

Hi Victor,

You can't change original code directly in the Sisulizer. This prevents incorrect or unexpected changes in source code made by unexperienced or unauthorized persons. However, you can send info about mistake to developer directly from the Sisulizer. Right click on incorrect item in the Original column and select "Send spelling error to the author of the file..." in the context menu. After receiving updated resources files with corrected mistakes, you need rescan project via "Project" menu -> "Scan for Changes".
Best regards,Janusz

Thanks for the answer. I understand, and expected, your explanation, but I still think it should be possible to edit the original value. Maybe put it behind an option in settings, so that only teams that want this can enable it.

For us, developers edit the RESX files directly, so they don't interact with Sisulizer. I will look into proposing your approach, although it would be much simpler to give translators the ability to edit the default value of a resource.

Thanks,
~Victor

Hi Victor,
You can optionally use following solution:
  1. Create new SLP project for original RESX file (or add it as new source to existing SLP project).
  2. Set original language as output language.
  3. Set custom output file pathname in Source Properties dialog -> File tab e.g. "Test\<file>" (it will create output resx file with original name in Test folder)
  4. Set options for output file (as on attached screenshot), NET version etc.
  5. Add corrected original strings as translations in the Sisulizer sheet.
  6. Build SLP project and replace original RESX file with output file created by the Sisulizer.
  7. Send changed RESX file to developer for syncing VS project with your changes.
Optionally you can export changed items from this SLP as resx file end send to developers without building of localized output files via "File" menu -> "Export..." -> "Resx" tab and wait on changed files from devs. I recommend this solution.

Janusz

OK, I'll take the proposed solution back to our team and see what they think.

Thanks for your time.
